LAB HOMME A/H '12 and 5 minutes with Chris Cheng

source: all photos by Anya Stoliar

Another great show from the team LAB. I fell in love with the pops of colour against beautiful streamlined silhouettes and vintage props. G and I attempted to eat Beach Haus's entire fruit platter and had a few sneaky conversations with the models backstage, one of whom taught us the awesome power of grapefruit juice on the human stomach. My new leather jacket came out to play after retiring my old true and trusted of the last 7 years.

I also got to steal Chris away for a few questions:

Anya: Can you share some background information on what inspired you design and how you started LAB?
Chris: It's very cliche, but LAB stemmed from my own need for quality minimalist inspired clothing. Minimal, thoughtful, comfort and Australian made.

A: How would you describe your design aesthetic and your inspirations?
C: Inspiration comes mainly from European silhouettes and Japanese styling.

A: Can you talk us through preparing for a fashion show?
C: Many months of research culminating to a narrative, a story. I'm old fashioned in the sense I'm a fan of intimate salon style presentations where you can hear the fabrics, see the clothes and models, how the fabrics move. We are all story tellers, this is my story and what i think is an interesting next step, that's all.

A: Do you have any advice for people trying to break into the fashion industry?
C: We each have our own path, so follow your heart. I don't believe in luck, but effort. The biggest difference between good and great is the intention and how much heart we put in. Merci beaucoup!

you will have to excuse the borderline tacky standing next to expensive car which isn't mine pose, what can I say all the excitement of a cheeky white wine with friends I haven't seen in too long and the very short wait to get into the Marquee makes me giddy and demand photos taken next to things that colour coordinate with my outfit. Yes I have been growing out my fringe! The process has been an extremely painful one. This isn't to say I wasn't happy with my blunt bangs for so many years, but I felt that I didn't suit them anymore and came the three months of pain known only too well to anyone that has ever been coerced into cutting a fringe. Tears at my hairdressers every few weeks and a crate full of hairspray means that by the time this photo was taken I am slightly more happy with the growth progress. It was a haircut (or should I say growth) that was a long time coming and in January I bit thee bullet and told my hairdresser not to trim my bangs. It had to be done, and the way I saw it hair grows fastest in summer and I was hoping to be somewhat happy with the length by the time I go to Europe in June so that I can have my hassle free wash and wear hair back.

bad boys

source: alexander wang

I need these bad boys in my life. after I bought my first pair of low cut black biker boots i really didn't understand what took me so long to get them in the first place, they're the little black dress of everyday wear. plus these have the great ankle on show. nothing better than a sexy ankle!

MOK THEOREM SPRING/SUMMER 10/11 "Check Mate Collection"

source: all photos taken by Anya Stoliar

I attended the Mok Theorem show last night, at the Audi Showroom. When I got my invitation I was a little giddy when the show was described as "quirky uses of leather, PVC, zipper detailing juxtaposed with silks and modal", and when I realised my seat was right next to the model's last stopping point I was extremely happy I could capture all the beautiful and intricate details on each of the elegant pieces. You could say I'm a detail fiend.. Two of my favourite pieces were the beautiful silk shirt above, I have too many to count, but since they're my absolute staple I couldn't help but fall in love with it. The second was the navy mini dress.. I could write up what would seem an extremely exaggerated sentence, but I'd rather say that in the first 30seconds of seeing this dress I excitedly turned around to Laura to give her a massive thumbs up and a big grin almost dropping my camera.. very classy on my behalf! A big congratulations to Grace & Gloria on the collection, it was such a beautiful night!
