I've always wanted one of those wall decals for as long as I can remember going to the markets and seeing them for ridiculous prices. Something about a 90$ cut piece of plastic just doesn't seem right (cue comments about buying costume jewellery). So I was pretty happy to walk into typo @ bondi, which is cotton on's new baby, and pick up one of these gigantic wall decals for 29$. I couldn't wait to come home, unwrap it and stick it onto the wall of my wardrobe.. an hour later I was sitting on the floor in tears. Two parents with numerous years of experience in that old fashioned eastern European trade of sticking up wallpaper, and I just couldn't figure out a way to stick up a damn decal without 50 million bubbles. I ended up redoing it 3 times before I decided to cut the whole thing up into strips to get rid of most of the bubbles. I'm not sure if its one of those you get what you pay for situations, or the instructions were wrong, or maybe the Eiffel tower is just not a wall friendly shape. If anyone wants a wall decal.. go for a small bird, or a twig shape, or something small that wont leave you feeling like a blubbery little child. I've deemed it the Ei-FAIL tower and walk over every once in a while to smooth over an air bubble.
Blogging has become such a nasty business. no matter whose blog you go to, there are horrible comments. Someone's too fat, someone is too skinny and that's just the comments that didn't involve studying someone's blog for a good few weeks to create remarks that would seem witty at first glance. For every negative comment I see on someone's blog, I want to leave 2 nice ones. People believe blogs are so much more intimate than they really are, yes you're sharing your life with people through pictures, text or both but I guess everyone forgets to distance themselves and realise that no this isn't a complete person, this is what someone's selected to present to you. Not even with an oh so popular video blog should you leave comments passing judgement on that person like you've know them all your life. No one's going to stop blogging because of it and you look like a little nasty no body. I'm so tired of seeing crap written about my favourite blogs and missing old school Internet happiness x 1000 right now.
I couldn't agree more reading your last paragraph. There are so many bitchy people out there. Don't like something then don't post immature comments. Well said, you have a new reader!
ReplyDeleteYeah, i totally agree about people so mean on blogs. Thankfully i havent got any mean ones yet (touch wood), but what kind of a saddo enjoys being so mean?
ReplyDeletePanda xx
wow, the eiffel tower looks awesome! it was worth the effort, lovely :)
ReplyDeleteand i see what you mean about the horrible comments. it's really heartbreaking when someone puts so much effort in their blog jsut to have someone complain.
Omg...LOVE IT <3
ReplyDeleteloveeeee torre eiffel =)*
Beautifuuul
You know the funny thing is, no one is exempt from this. I was reading Alexa Chung's column a few days ago and people were just throwing around shit on her comments. I mean really are these ass holes writing anything worthwhile or does their literary ability finish at calling her uneducated. And this is Alexa Chung, so what can the mere blogger do but be thankful that 90% of the population can respect the content we put forward. Nice to know other people are speaking out about this.
ReplyDeleteyour cupboard tower looks amazing, i can't even tell you've cut it all up haha, seriously it looks great!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the negative comments. Why leave them? Luckily a lot od bloggers and followers are really positive and lovely but sometimes someone with a grudge comes along and leaves something nasty, its sad

Amen to your entire last paragraph and boo I'm sorry the decal didn't work out! Maybe it was a two person project? I'd offer my help! just gotta get the plane ticket to Australia ;) haha

Wow, you've done such a good job of hiding the places you cut the decal into strips!! That's an achievement, despite the bubbles.
ReplyDeleteAnd oh no, people have been leaving nasty comments?! How rude. I feel like so many of those old sayings need to come back into play these days - like "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all".
I love you. I don't know you very well. But you have a good heart, and I enjoy reading your blog.
ReplyDeletePs. Good job on the decal!
I'm wondering if this window decal works like the ones I use in visual mercandising at work (the ones stuck to the windows in shops). With those ones you wet them, and then wipe the water off with a sponge.
ReplyDeleteBut perhaps that would just totally stuff it, so don't take my word for it.
I really like your blog, it's a new discovery for me, what is wrong with people, why be mean and nasty? Anyways keep up the good work, adore your style :)
ReplyDeleteYou're so right on the last paragraph..! It's such a shame that there are so many haters out there. I'd wish everyone was a bit nicer to eachother. After all: if you don't like the blog/vlog it's really not necessary to leave a comment at all, let alone writing a nasty comment.
ReplyDeleteI like people being critical and trying to start discussion - this opens everyone's eyes on the subject. But I simply don't like people who find it normal to write mean comments on different websites.
So I'm with you on the whoooole last paragraph.
And for the decal: I'm sure it's very hard to do. I would've sit down and cried as well from frustration. And the picture looks nice, so I simply guess you did a good job on that one!
Love,
Nancy

I think that most of the time, mean comments are created by low-lives called 'trolls' (I hope you've heard of them before?). It basically means that when I see a comment that's pretty uncalled for, I immediately assume it's a troll just wanting to rile people up, and then it's just a vicious cycle. That's the problem with the internet nowadays, just because you have the option to put yourself as anonymous, you can act like a super bitch dick to anyone and get away with it.
ReplyDeletep.s. miss your face. hope you're doing well.
